The
Welsh poppy is truly at home in damp and rocky places in Wales
and south-west England, but is naturalised in other parts of the
country. Its rootstock is perennial, and the leafy stems rise
to about one to two feet. The leaves are pale green, pinnately
divided, and the lower ones are on long stalks. The pale yellow
flowers, each with four petals, are at their best in June and
July.
