The Sun is the centre of our life and the main body of the solar system. It is only one of millions of stars, some larger and others smaller. The nearest star is 25 million million miles away from the Earth whereas the Sun is only just under 93 million miles away - hence its apparent size, brilliance and power. The Sun's temperature is calculated to be 6,000° Centigrade. The diameter of the Sun is over 100 times greater than the Earth's.
