The Aurora Borealis is a phenomenon of the night sky. In the atmosphere are seen long quivering streamers of light, usually seeming to radiate from an arc. These bands of light are often white, but sometimes red, green, or yellowish. It is most frequently seen between 65 degrees and 80 degrees northern latitude and believed to be caused by discharges of electricity in the rare upper atmosphere , travelling along the lines of magnetic force which point towards the magnetic North Pole. A similar phenomenon in the Southern hemisphere is known as the Aurora Australis.
