Set B5 - British Wild Life - card information

18. Scottish Wild Cat
(Felis silvestris)

18. Scottish Wild Cat

There are gone-wild cats and truly wild cats and they are very different animals. The real wild cat, Felis silvestris, is one of the most untamable of savages. In the British Isles it is now found only in the Highlands of Scotland, where it roams the hills and glens, living on grouse, ptarmigan and mountain hares, plus voles and mice. The old male is a fine fellow and most devoted mate. The wild cat is a striped rusty-coloured tabby, with a handsome black tip to its tail and black soles to its feet, and does not vary in colour.
